When You Reward Bad Behavior, You Get More of It!

        You'd think that a meaningful phrase like that would resonate with our politicians and powers-to-be, but it seems they are doing, in many cases, just the opposite. Take, for instance, our out-of-control immigration policy over the past few decades. We have, against our best interests as a country, let millions of illegal aliens (a.k.a undocumented immigrants) into our country with little or no restraint to halt the “invasion” by these non-U.S. Citizens looking for work, a better life, and some for evil reasons (ex: MS-13 gang bangers). Most of us would agree that orderly immigration is a good thing for our country as long as the immigrants attempt to positively assimilate into our society and into our economy. But, our lax policy has created a major problem that today entails a danger to our national security and has become an economic burden upon our country.
  
         The big magnet for the influx of millions of “undocumented immigrants” has been the ease in which they are able to “game the system” once they illegally cross the border. We provide housing, welfare, medical care, education, and a host of other benefits, some of which our own citizens are not even eligible for. The liberals (a/k/a Progressives) have latched onto the emotional appeal that it is cruel to turn back these “invaders” to their home countries. Since the Democrats are the party that generally offers generous “welfare benefits” to all, they would be the one's who champion the path of these illegals to become U.S. Citizens in hopes that they will someday become future “documented Democrats”. That “someday” is actually here in some cities, as in the case of some Maryland cities who will allow “illegals” the right to vote in local elections. If the trend continues, how long before the “bleeding hearts” will be championing the right of illegals to vote in state and federal elections?

            Another area where we seem to reward “bad behavior” is in the area of legalizing drugs. There is a major push by some liberals and libertarians to make the sale and use of marijuana legal in all states. Is it in our best interests to legalize another “mind altering” drug (like alcohol)? Yes, there are some medical benefits for the use of “pot” to ease the pain and suffering of people in need of relief, but should we be encouraging the use of this drug for recreational purposes? Experience of the effects of legalized recreational marijuana use in Colorado shows that the incidence of auto accidents has increase exponentially since “pot” has been made legal. Also, medical side effects have raised its ugly head by the excessive use of recreational marijuana. Wouldn't or shouldn't this be classified as rewarding “bad behavior”? Many of the same people who were and are against tobacco use are some of the same people who now champion the use of marijuana.

          Other areas where “bad behavior” seems to be encouraged is in the “product” being turned out in Hollywood and in the so-called music of “Rap Music” (a real stretch in calling that music), where the lyrics call for violence against police and the denigration of women. Yet these are the same people who decry violence in our society while they are big contributors to the violence and “bad behavior” by their own actions and behavior. Total hypocrites all.

            In conclusion, the policies of Pres. Trump and some of or politicians and religious leaders will have to be expanded in order to combat this assault upon our values, and the rise of “bad behavior” in certain areas of our society. When certain groups condemn law enforcement and call for the killing of cops, and then belittle people who have firm religious beliefs as being anti-American, you know we have a national problem that will only get worse if we don't confront it now. So yes, when you reward “bad behavior” you will get more of it, so stop rewarding bad behavior.
